Hey do y’all fucks remember two years ago when just before the election all these “don’t vote both parties are bad” or “vote independent!” Posts were going around and then Trump won and now two weeks before midterms there’s all these “don’t bother voting, revolution is the only way!” And “your vote isn’t gonna matter and is an ineffective way to protest” posts are going around? Yeah knock that shit right the fuck off, don’t fall for it and get your ass to the polls, we are not doing this again.
“I know voting can be a pain in the ass, so just pretend like, if you don’t vote, children will be ripped from the arms of a parent who crawled across a desert to give them a better life and put in cages.” (Laurie Kilmartin)
me: i’ve come to really not like harry potter, because of the way the majority of its fans behave as well as the bullshit jk rowling says and does and im not really comfortable identifying w/ the series anymore
right? like I’m 22 and curvy and I’ve still been mistaken for as young as 14 because I have a baby face and I’m short. that sure as hell doesn’t make me child coded, nor does it make other adults that are attracted to me pedophiles because that’s fucking absurd! I think that my own experiences are why I tend to headcanon characters like Pidge as older than they are in canon, because I like to think that they’re just very young looking adults like me.
I’m 23 and people tell me I look 15-16 and if anyone suggested that I was childlike(I get enough of that from exclusionists and aphobes) or that it was wrong for my partner to find me sexually attractive I would literally scream.
Antis are all about robbing women of any sexual agency and it’s sickening.
I’m 39 and got carded the other day.
Bartender here to confirm that some people solidly into their 20′s (with ID to prove it) look approximately 12 years old on account of just being babyfaced and short. One time a lady came in with a backpack and my co-worker was like “um, are you lost hon?” thinking she was a kid. She was 24 years old, but… short and babyfaced.
One time my ID scanner glitched and was reading everyone’s ID’s as 15 years younger than they actually were. I discovered this because I scanned an ID, it said “16” on the scanner and I was like “wat” and actually told the lady she couldn’t be in a bar if she’s 16. She was like “wtf I’m 31″, I looked at her ID again and sure enough the year matched what she claimed… I was all set to freakin’ believe she was 16 and just wearing lots of makeup to look older. (and then I tested the scanner on MY ID, which I know 100% is legit because, you know, I obtained it through the appropriate legit channels… and the scanner said I was 13 which was obviously absurd, I was actually 28).
Now, I’m tall and the opposite of babyfaced, and I was consistently getting mistaken for an adult when I was in my teens. I had to ride the city bus past the college campus to get home, and the number of times college dudes hit on me like “oh you’re a freshman? What’s your major?” and then looked panicky and made awkward exits when I answered “high school”… well let’s just say it wasn’t exactly a rare occurrence (and not once did any of them keep trying to hit on me after realizing I was underage, so clearly they were not pedophiles, I just looked believably college-age and was on the bus all the college kids take to classes). I also got mistaken for my 11-year-old sister’s mom a few times when I was 16. And once got mistaken for my one-year-younger friend from school’s mom (at that point I was 17, she was 16). Said friend is asian, I’m white, we look… not much alike. But we’d gone out for lunch at a restaurant and I guess “mother/daughter bonding time and the kid’s either biracial or adopted” was the assumption the waitress made. This also more than once saved me from truancy or underage-drinking tickets, along with having the sense to bluff like I had no reason to worry when cops showed up and a decent poker face to hide my panicking. They just looked at me and deemed my presence either at drinking parties or on the street during school hours non-suspicious.
Anyway point is you can’t always tell how old someone is by looking, adults are still adults and teens are still teens even if you think they look older or younger, and it’s not automatically horrible and pedophilic either to be attracted to actual adults who are short and babyfaced, NOR to be attracted to teens who look older than they are and appear believably adult. It’s obviously wrong to take advantage of a teenager even if they look older, but there is a HUGE difference between (respectfully) hitting on someone you THINK is 18-20ish but is actually 16ish whenyou don’t know and have no context clues to make a better-educated guess based on, and backing off when you realize, vs. deliberately targeting teens (particularly when the person doing the hitting-on is around 18-20 themself, but it’s not even wrong for an older person to find adult-appearing individuals attractive, it might get creepy if someone in their 30′s is consistently aiming for 18-20yo’s but if it does happen once in a while that’s not ALWAYS a sign of predatory intent).
Babyfaced-and-short adults have to deal with people assuming they’re younger all the time, it probably gets super annoying. Don’t make it worse by acting like anyone who’s willing to have sex with them KNOWING THAT THEY’RE ADULTS is somehow secretly a pedo. They’re adults. They’re allowed to make adult decisions regardless of how babyfaced they might be.
When I’m not made up in drag or have my hair cut appropriately, I look about maybe 14. If I push it real damn hard maybe 16-19.
I’m Twenty-Fucking-SIX.
But that’s what comes of being a 5′3″ transdude, friends. YOU LOOK FUCKIN YOUNG AS SHIT, and neither of my partners are fucking pedos you twisted shits.
when Trump said he’d create jobs, i didn’t realize the plan was to escalate rhetoric and advocate violence against the media in order to create work for bomb squads, but hey, it’s working.
as of this writing, i think we’re up to eight confirmed bombs sent to people that are Democrats, or media that are insufficiently friendly to Trump, so far today (or possibly some were yesterday?).
just for reference: this is not normal.
suggest that, if you don’t think it should be normal, you consider the possibility that the rhetorical environment in which it seems normal is probably the problem, and that the thing where the Republican party as a whole cannot be seen to say anything negative about Trump openly claiming to be a nationalist and praising people for killing dissidents and censoring their media is probably the primary root of that problem right now.
options include (1) cause the Republican party to stop doing that, (2) cause them not to be in a position of power.
suggestion: vote.
While not meaning to normalize it, but didn’t the white house and some republicans just receive ricin letters last month? I find it a bit strange that that kind of just slid under the radar without this discussion of either side normalizing this behaviour before or whatever, but then presumably a mirror version happens and this discussion is now at the forefront. I mean, are we just going to apply anything negative we want about whatever group we want to blame and say that it normalizes ricin letters now? How about any religion? I just don’t see the correlation here being justified and just trying to equate one bad thing as being the fault of a thing you want to be thought of as bad by others.
Uh… This line of discourse is sort of complete bullshit.
What normalizes violence is actively advocating for it and cheering it on and treating it as normal.
And since before the 2016 election, we’ve had people talking about getting death threats from Trump supporters, and Trump talking about how he could just shoot someone and his supporters wouldn’t care (true enough), and violence at Trump rallies, and Trump praising the fucking dictator of North Korea, specifically his “relationship with his people”, and Trump supporting the Saudis and accepting their claim that probably the journalist was dismembered before he even got to their consulate.
That is normalizing violence as a response to political disagreement.
It has nothing to do with “religion”. It has nothing to do with any of the other negative things you might believe about Trump’s coterie. There are people out there who are racist assholes and think that putting little kids in detention camps is great, who still absolutely oppose the normalization of violence. And they are not at fault in the thing where it seems normal that we’ve had more attempted political assassinations in the US this year than we had during probably any previous decade of my life.
I don’t see how you can look at someone specifically praising violence and repression, and calling out “the media” as the Enemy of the American People, and then say “I don’t see how that’s correlated to package bombs being sent to the media”.
So where is your huge “Liberals endorse violence through their narratives! These Ricin letters were encouraged by the atmosphere the liberals push about the GOP being evil!”, or would that not make any sense?
I mean, you just said Trump’s statements on national incidents and relations as being part of an atmosphere that made these bombings occur. I’m sorry, but I don’t see how the correlation between the diplomacy game and mail bombs are really related or considered by however actually did the act. Like it seems like your taking everything you can construe as endorsing violence and saying that lead to this event.
My point about religion is that it’s not really fair to say that they create an environment that leads to terrorism as well. These are actions and decisions of individuals (and we can see that in that there are people who seemingly disagree with everything the GoP stands for doing similar stuff), they aren’t brainwashed agents that only get the idea that they can hurt people because someone else says they can, they are deranged people who try to do something by a means they know can stop people (by killing them).
I mean, would you say the idea that video games cause violence is bullshit? It would seem you’re applying a similar thing here to me.
So where is your huge “Liberals endorse violence through their narratives! These Ricin letters were encouraged by the atmosphere the liberals push about the GOP being evil!”, or would that not make any sense?
Show us where liberals have called for violence, have praised those who act violently, not just made criticisms, or no it does not make any sense to make that claim.
“These people are evil and should be removed from power” is a very different statement from “these people should be locked up/roughed up/treated harshly/made to suffer”. Can you really not see the difference???
I mean there’s a point there… “punch all nazis” where “nazi” is very nebulously defined and could be expanded to include anyone you don’t like….?? Yeah, I’ve seen that shit. Heck I AND my partners have BOTH been called Nazis just for being white on the “wrong” side of town and/or not immediately looking Queer. So uh…. yes, it does apply.
unless you’re planning on starting and completing a socialist revolution by november 6th there is absolutely no reason to abstain from voting. it is not a blood pact. you are not beholden to democrats when you vote for them over abstaining. there IS a lesser of two evils and it’s not inaction. every republican voted in kavanaugh and only one democrat did. statistically we are literally safer with democrats in office.
and no, i’m not planning on relinquishing communist ideals in deference to dems. i just don’t think as black and white as “anything short of a communist revolution is useless.” roe v wade is in jeopardy and women WILL die if it gets overturned. leftists sitting on their asses are about as useful as the thoughts and prayers of school shootings
Musical prodigy Alma Deutscher aged 11 (seen here with younger sister Helen), is staging her first full-length opera, Cinderella.
Composer, pianist, violinist… Alma learned to read music before she could read words. She began playing the piano aged two and at four years old she was composing her own music.
ok sure kid… and it’s seriously awesome what you’re doing at such a young age. But Cinderella is not just “looking pretty” and “cleaning floors.”
She’s an abuse victim, who wanted a night out at a party away from her craptastic family, and JUST SO HAPPENED to find the prince.
Congratulations on staging your first opera, on learning an instrument so young and putting in the time and effort to do so. You should definitely be applauded for that, and for the effort of writing music in the manner that you’ve done.
theres this screamer video going around facebook. this is what it looks like. it seems like its building up to some heartbreaking ending to this guys story and then a scary face pops up and loud screaming. the picture is of the beginning of the video. please spread this around u could really be doin someone a favor.
My name is Kelsey Juliana and I’m suing the United States government
for causing and accelerating the climate change crisis. I’m 22 years old
and I’ve been a climate activist for more than half of my life.
I know that young people like me, and others who have yet to be born,
have a right to a safe climate system. The constitution guarantees all
Americans the right to life, liberty, and property. But how is anyone
supposed to live a life of freedom amid a climate crisis? My own
government is violating my constitutional rights by its ongoing and
deliberate actions that cause climate change and it’s not right.
I, along with 20 other young people from around the country, filed a lawsuit against the federal government in 2015, called Juliana v. United States.
We’re not asking for money. Instead, we’re asking the court to order
the government to develop and implement a National Climate Recovery Plan
based on the best available science.
This plan should end the reign of fossil fuels and quickly
decarbonize our atmosphere so that we can stabilize our climate system
before it’s too late.
The longer we go without climate recovery, the more we risk allowing our climate to spiral completely out of control.
And the climate is spiraling out of control, no matter how many
politicians claim we’re experiencing normal fluctuations or, worse, a
“hoax.” All of the expert witnesses in our lawsuit say that we are
currently—already—in the “danger zone” and an “emergency situation” with
only 1°C of planetary heating. Allowing the planet to heat up any more
is not safe for our species, as well as so many others. And according to
the Trump administration’s most recent environmental impact statement,
the planet could heat as much as 7°F before the end of this century. We
cannot allow this to happen because we simply will not survive.
We originally filed our lawsuit against the Obama administration.
That administration tried to have the case dismissed, but the judge
ruled in our favor and found that we should be allowed to go to trial.
In 2017, the Trump administration inherited the lawsuit and it has
done everything in its power, employing every conceivable tactic, to
deny my fellow plaintiffs and me our right to present our case in court.
This administration is so fiercely attempting to silence our voices.
At this point, every level of the federal judiciary—the U.S. District
Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court—has
denied the Trump administration’s efforts to have the case thrown out.
Yet it will not halt its efforts to avoid standard legal procedures and
confront us, the nation’s youth, in court.
Our trial is officially scheduled to begin on October 29, 2018 in Eugene, Oregon.
What we’re asking for could change everything.
My fellow plaintiffs and I want you with us as we head into the
courtroom to confront the United States government for knowingly
violating our constitutional rights. Supporters will hold rallies in
every state around the country, so if you can’t be with us in Eugene, find your local rally here.
