The popular vote is only meaningless in a Presidential election, because the Presidential election system is fucking stupid. Elections for the Senate, the House, and state/local positions are all based directly on the popular vote.
In this election? Your vote counts. And sure, your vote is probably not gonna be the difference between which Senator you get … but it might be the difference between whether or not your local library stays open. Or whether or not your local schools teach actual history instead of right-wing propaganda. Or whether or not you get a state/county judge who will actually look at the cases on their docket and try to judge justly, instead of just assuming that all women are to blame for anything that happens to them.
Unless you think that the people in power in DC really care about school board elections in Podunk, Nowhere… yeah, it’s still worth voting.
I mean, you should still vote in the presidential elections anyway, because as much as the electoral college system is bullshit, if EVERYONE who just kind of ignores voting all went out and voted, they’d be enough to sway things.
I mean, I live in Utah, which is an absurd amount Republican-dominated, and I generally vote for Democrats. I’ve voted Dem in every presidential election since I was 18. Every single time the Republican candidate has won the Utah electoral vote, so my vote has been effectively meaningless in that regard. But you know what? It’s still worth doing. Because that vote still counts in popular vote statistics, and when someone loses the electoral college but wins the popular vote by a huge margin, it tends to spur people to object to the electoral college. Which… it’s never gonna CHANGE unless a lot of people object. And when you’re voting for the local stuff anyway, it takes a whole extra two seconds to vote for prez. Just fucking vote.
