Man, cats just want to be close to us. They just want to chill in our proximity. They love us so much and they’re just so happy and content to have us close by while we do our people things and they do their cat things. If I’m in another part of the house and my cat hears me, he’ll stop what he’s doing and come over to where he can see me and then continue doing his thing there. I’m crying.

Mephistopheles just wants a warm box to sleep in and tasty food and maybe snuggles when he wants them. Also to scream in the night when he wakes up and cannot find you because you have gone to bed and “abandoned him.” He must complain about the abandonment, before he will snuggle for a brief moment, before wandering away to do Cat Things in the night.
Lilith would very much like to Not Be Touched except on HER terms, and to be very loudly appreciated when she jumps on the desk and hides the screen. If you are very lucky and Do Not Touch, perchance she will snuggle. Silently. In the middle of the night, while you are unawares. (Often she forges to leave in the morning, and I find her on His pillow. It’s precious and melts my heart.)
