PSA: If anyone tries to turn you away at the voting polls because your name isn’t on the register, don’t walk away. Request a provisional ballot; it’s REQUIRED BY LAW. Don’t let anyone steal your vote.
Any analysis of Democratic losses in red states that doesn’t begin and end with Shelby v. Holder isn’t worth listening to.
seriously, this is fucked up. I live in a town in Ohio that’s only slightly bigger (~30,000) and we have like 16 in the city limits alone, and another 10-15 in the surrounding area.
It is a classic voter suppression tactic, and it is sickening that it is allowed to happen without major repercussions for whomever engages in it.
This is so fucked up. My town has about 10,000 people and is about 5 square miles. We have 2 polling locations – one at the middle school, one at the library. But hey, it’s 90% white people so I guess that makes sense. This fucking racist disgusting country and its horrific amount of success with voter suppression. They cheat because they know they wouldn’t win otherwise. I hope there are activists out there offering rides or helping to submit absentee ballot forms…
I know it’s unrealistic, but I hope an uprising of unexpected voters from their least favorite demographics come to crush them in November. I hope an unprecedented number of women, young people, minorities, marginalized communities, etc, get the support they need to make sure they’re registered, get an absentee ballot if needed, or get help going to the polls. You can check your registration status and get an absentee ballot at vote.org or your state’s official website’s voting/elections section. Let’s get these fuckwads out of power.
My advice would be for any Democrat voters in Dodge City who have a car to offer a ride to a many friends or relatives of there’s who plan to vote Democrat but who don’t drive and so would find it harder to get to the voting station. Carpool as much as possible and help as many people as physically possible get to this polling station
This is blatant voter suppression bullshit and while it’s disgusting it’s sadly not surprising…and it’s also not impossible to overcome
Every time I see someone post about ouija boards being dangerous because they’re ‘portals’, I really wonder how they’d react to knowing that any and every mirror in their home is more of a portal than a board game.
Not to mention chimneys, vent ducts, windows and doorways. More crap enters the front door than through any ouija board or mirror.
You beat me to it. I was going to periodically add more commonplace spirit doors as time went on.
Point being, folks, that spirits are everywhere. They kinda just waltz in and out when they feel like it.
Yeah, if you want a spirit-free space? Solidly warding your windows, doors, and mirrors (and vents, and chimneys, and also you’ll probably wanna add a general space-ward along the walls for good measure) will do a lot more to further that goal than throwing out your ouija board.
Ouija is a tool for communication. A door is a tool for entry. Which one are entities more likely “coming in” THROUGH?
Or do you think that throwing your cell phone away is going to do more to deter unwanted human visitors from entering your home than locking your front door will?
Trump’s oppression of transgender people is simply another way of upholding the gender binary and keeping women down, Haider argues in this interesting piece in The Guardian.
I believe she is right. Trans men threaten the binary by proving that you do not need a penis to be a man. Trans women threaten the patriarchy by proving that not all those assigned male think that that being a man is so much better than being a woman. They threaten the idea that women are inferior to men, which is – of course – the implicit argument for why men should be in control.
Haider puts it this way:
Transgender erasure is a weapon being used to fight against women’s equality. In order for a mechanism of oppression to exist between two classes in society, differentiation between them is crucial. In the same fashion as interracial relationships and mixed-race children were anathema to segregationists, transgender people pose a serious challenge for patriarchal structures. The inviolable superior status of white people over black people is challenged when there are people who are both black and white. Similarly, in creating gray space between male and female, transgender people subvert the patriarchy.
Misogyny and oppression of women must be fought globally and unwaveringly, including in western societies, which have falsely been perceived as post-feminist. Transgender rights are crucial in the struggle not only for human rights, but women’s liberation. Those who fiercely advocate for eradicating transgender people are fighting to retain a world under the regime of male hegemony. In such an environment, autocrats and their accompanying oligarchies are sustained. A world without misogyny and with women and queer liberation is a world without despotic rulers. We are in desperate need as a global community to arrive there.
Hey, OP, you have a point and I’ll let you finish…
BUT HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THAT WE ARE ACTUAL PEOPLE AND NOT COGS FOR YOUR ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT/PATRIARCHAL POLITICAL MACHINE??? My existence is about nothing more than being able to live my life as I see fit, it’s got nothing whatsoever to do with “challenging the patriarchy and women’s equality” and EVERYTHING to do with personal autonomy, individual rights, and the freedom to live as I say I should.
Yeah, trans rights are human rights. Period. End of. You don’t need to ride the coattails of our movement and make it all about you, and you don’t need to make trans rights about the race war either. Their intersection is it’s own thing, as is the intersection of violence against women and violence against trans women. As is the demonification of transmen as Less Than because we don’t have bio-dicks that weren’t surgically given to us.
You can acknowledge those intersections and the importance OF those intersections without sneering at us while you do it. “Yes this is crucial but also have you considered how it slots into my agenda??”
I am not the “gray space” between male and female. I am not the “bridge between genders.” And I am not your fucking PAWN in an attempt to remind the world that “men are evil, except trans men, Because Oppression.”
Yes, trans rights are fucking important. Yes, women’s rights are fucking important. And guess what?? Men’s rights are ALSO fucking important. It’s called EQUALITY. And if you want a world without despots, you will take into consideration the rights of all involved and treat them with some basic humanity. Not claim to support them with one hand and shove them under with the other.
There’s enough fighting on our side as it is, and you want to pull this shit? I want you to know, PERSONALLY, that the only reason I’m in any way sympathetic to you at this moment, is because you have a point and it’s better than the other side.
not to get into handwriting discourse here but im sick of people who write short fat letters all the same size getting all the attention for having “pretty handwriting” when my illegible loopy scrawl is just as good. romanticize shitty halfway cursive again!!!!!
if i cant read it, its valid
illegibly loopy handwriting has 10 times the Aesthetic value of stumpy even writing. can you imagine a Byronic hero/heroine writing in that kinda print? can you imagine your fave mad poet writing in a perfectly even size? exactly. the truth is that shitty half cursive has always been the peak of style and romance and it’s only the totalitarian nature of the education system that prizes evenness over a scrawled out grace. in this essay I will argue that education killed romance
“sloppy” handwriting is usually the result of thinking faster than you can write. Training the sloppiness out of someone results in them having to slow down their thoughts. Faster thoughts are more useful than perfect handwriting
That’s cool and all but whatever you write is useless if you can’t read it so…
People can read their own handwriting, even if it’s messy. Teachers and other people who have to deal with a variety of handwritten documents learn to read messy handwriting. It’s usually family and friends who think handwriting needs to fit an aesthetic that harass sloppy writers
I learned to write in cursive, not to print and I think it looks much cooler, no matter what people say.
“the truth is that shitty half cursive has always been the peak of style and romance”
:: looks at own mostly-incomprehensible scribbles ::
Yes. Yes, good. I support this theory.
I mean, unless I slow down a bit no I literally can NOT read my own writing…? Which is why I slow down enough that it’s at least legible.
