Bob Marshall has been running anti-trans TV ads against her and sending out transphobic mailers (content warning: misgendering, transphobia.)
I know Danica Roem winning is a long shot but it would mean a great deal to me if she even came remotely close, as a bi/trans Virginian who’s dealt with Bob Marshall’s homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic shit for years.
She’s a seasoned investigative journalist for the local newspaper, who’s spent the last decade on the beat getting to know the problems of the district shes running for. Danica Roem is the most uniquely qualified person for Bob Marshall’s legislative seat because she knows, almost academically, exactly what’s wrong and how to fix it for the district.
During the last nine months, She’s focused her campaign on local issues: -fixing Route 28 by replacing traffic lights with overpasses throughout Centreville and replacing the traffic light at Orchard Bridge Drive with a flyover in Yorkshire; -bringing high-paying jobs to Innovation Park by finding a cost-effective way to extend the VRE westward from Broad Run to Gainesville with a stop at Innovation to make the area more marketable; -raising teacher pay in Prince William County and Manassas Park so it’s not the lowest in Northern Virginia; -expanding Medicaid to 3,700 uninsured residents of the 13th District who earn up to 138 percent of the federal poverty line; and -making Virginia a more inclusive commonwealth, so welcome everyone no matter what they look like, where they come from, how they worship or who they love.
She was also born in the district, Bob Marshall is from maryland and made his way down to virginia to set up his demented operation.
But please please please if you are in manassas park or prince william county in Virginia do not forget to vote on November 7th, and bring a valid photo ID!

Democratic institutions won’t come to life like a bad Michael Bay movie and fight fascism themselves. Captain Separation of Powers isn’t a hero that can be called like Captain Planet when fascism is too big for the Democrateers to handle on their own. Democratic institutions are made up of people and if those people sell out, buy in, or knuckle under when confronted with a threat because they see which way the wind is blowing, there goes the institution you thought would protect you. It’s just a piece of paper….a building….an idea that no one is going to stop someone from stepping on.
The US has a long history of the ruling elite (white men) walking right through democratic institutions to get what they want when they think no one will or can stop them (and no one does). Maybe not everything gets better, but for two years we’ve been living the nightmare of how it can always get worse.
The people who have been warning us that this might be the last election before we go all in with a fascist dictatorship are the exact same people who have been right every single step of the way about what this administration would do and what it was capable of. The people who are saying there’s no way that can happen because of X institution, Y separation of powers, or Z check and balance are the same ones who have been wrong in their facehole every time they said that said there was no way would be exactly, precisely where we are today.
That judge who asked young children if they even knew what a lawyer was and then continued to proceed on their cases is a piece of shit and I hope he rots slowly while alive, he should have refused, what a pathetic evil motherfucker who actually spoke to these children face to face and still proceeded to treat them like criminals and send them off to god knows what kinda awful shit, I hope that sick fuck gets a very slow painful disease

So what this post is talking about is the short film: Unaccompanied: Alone in America, which is a dramatic representation of the plight of unaccompanied minors seeking refuge through America’s immigration courts.
As the Department of Justice does not allow recording devices in immigration courts the film maker used actors to recreate the process as best she could.
William C Snoufer is a retired Judge who agreed to return to the seat to help make the film, he is not someone actually judging these children and I think it was really commendable of him to be a part of this project.
Also I think it’s prudent to note, this project began work in 2014. Unaccompanied children have not had access to US immigration lawyers or translators since at least then, and probably longer. This is not a new problem for the US, just one that has been recently brought to light in the most horrific way possible.

Particularly if you live in Texas, please vote, just for the schadenfreude. Can you even imagine if Texas goes blue. Can you even imagine Ted Cruz losing. I’m getting giddy just thinking about the conservative meltdown. There is literally zero path to the Presidency for Republicans that doesn’t include Texas. If they have to sweat bullets for the next forever thinking that Texas might be a left-leaning state… guys, this just sounds like a fun time.

Last I checked, Beto is behind by like 4%. That is already huge for a Democrat in Texas by my understanding, and that is only polling “likely” voters, which literally never includes young people. If people our age turn up to vote, it would definitely swing the election massively towards Beto.

Also remember to CHECK YOUR BALLOT before submitting! There have been documented cases of votes for Beto getting switched to Cruz, particularly when people check the straight-party box for Dems (it seems likely that this can be avoided by not using the straight-party option and instead individually selecting each candidate, but it’s still a good idea to double-check).
If it happens to you talk to a poll worker to get the issue corrected and your ballot submitted properly.
